Kimberley Pledger, massage & touch therapist, Borough Market, SE1

My name is Kimberley Pledger and I have over five years experience of providing massage therapy services, both to private clients at my practice in London Bridge and to patients at hospitals across London. I am reputed to have 'healing hands.'

In addition to my client base of working professionals, mothers-to-be and the elderly, I specialise in working with people who have experienced trauma (including complex trauma), people who have body image disturbances or an eating disorder and people who are being treated for cancer.

The question I am most often asked when people enquire about my work is "What kind of massage do you do?" To answer that, I need to explain that although technique is important what really matters in determining the outcome of a massage is the quality of the touch. I offer specific massage treatments such as Indian head and Kahuna massage, but the bulk of my work draws on various massage techniques and my particular skill is in tailoring the application of these techniques to suit the physical and emotional needs of my clients on the day.  The massages I give are sufficiently firm to effectively tackle muscle tension as well as having the gentleness of touch required to promote relaxation and an overall sense of well-being.

I was inspired to practise massage professionally after I trained with Clare Maxwell-Hudson. Clare is considered to be one of the most interesting and practical authorities on massage alive today and her contribution to the field has won her international recognition. She is especially known for having pioneered the use of massage therapy in clinical settings and her training uniquely included a clinical placement at one of London's leading NHS hospitals.

I chose to complete my placement at The Royal Free Hospital in Hampstead and I am very proud to be part of the massage therapy team at the Royal Free. Read more here.

In addition to my work with cancer patients, I have considerable experience of working with people with mental health problems, having been part of the massage therapy team at SWLSTG Mental Health Trust.

Massage is wonderfully beneficial for people suffering depression and anxiety (and has been scientifically proven to be an effective tool in treating these conditions - visit the Miami Touch Research Institute for more details .

As well as developing a treatment protocol for working with people who have touch aversion, I am the first and only massage therapist to be accepted onto the UK Register of Trauma Specialists. For more information on my work with trauma please click here
